Reports about mediation between Algeria and Morocco to restore their diplomatic relations have been denied in a statement by Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra.

The crisis between Algiers and Rabat “does not tolerate mediation,” Lamamra told the state television on Saturday.

When asked about Saudi mediation between the two neighbors, he stated, “There is no mediation, not yesterday, not today, not tomorrow.”

During his visit to Algeria on Wednesday, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan had discussed a roadmap for reconciliation between Algeria and Morocco, Moroccan media suggested earlier.

Accusing Rabat of having “hostile tendencies,” Algeria severed diplomatic relations with Morocco in August 2021. Morocco dismissed the accusations.

Against the backdrop of the disputes concerning the Western Sahara region between Rabat and the Algeria-backed Polisario Front, Moroccan-Algerian ties have been tense for decades.
